Why Kia?

Kia has grown immensely in the past five years, and with that growth, the company has become significant competition for other manufacturers. With affordable and well-equipped products, this South Korean automaker leaves other companies in the dust. And now that electrification is the worldwide goal, Kia continues to do the same.

After parent brand Hyundai introduced its first EV, the Ioniq 5, Kia promptly introduced its first dedicated all-electric vehicle last year. Dressed in a sportier exterior and boasting a stylish interior, not to mention a nicer price than many others, the EV6 was an instant hit and won numerous accolades and awards.

2023 Kia EV6 in Albuquerque, NM: Missing the Light

Fast-forward to now, and you’ll discover the 2023 model of the EV6 has arrived with some critical differences. When the model debuted last year, the base trim was the rear-wheel drive Light version. Still, according to Kia, high demand and sales for the mid-level Wind trim led the company to discontinue production of the Light and make the Wind the entry-level model for 2023.

One of the main reasons the EV6 Wind became more popular with drivers is its increased range. Thanks to its 168-kW rear-mounted electric motor and 77.4-kWh battery pack, the RWD Wind trim gets a cool 310 miles of driving range between charges. The all-wheel drive version adds a front-mounted motor that pushes the horsepower up to 320 but unfortunately, loses some range, with these iterations getting 282 miles.

You’ll also have more options for the Wind trim this year, with the $1500 Wind Technology Package now available for the RWD version. With this package, you’ll get Remote Start, Blind-Spot Monitor, Reverse Auto Emergency Braking, and a 360°camera system.

Maximized Performance with the New GT Trim

Along with modified trim options, the 2023 Kia EV6 in Albuquerque, NM gets a new top-tier variant in the new performance-oriented GT model. This version is only offered in AWD and puts out an incredible 576 horsepower, courtesy of a 270-kW rear motor and a 160-kW motor in the front. With that much power, Kia says the GT makes the 0-60 mph sprint in a scant 3.6 seconds! Take that, Tesla! 😊

The GT begins with the GT-Line and enhances it with an electronic limited-slip differential, an electronically-controlled suspension, bigger brakes, and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires wrapped around 21-inch wheels. Inside you’ll notice a few changes, with GT-exclusive trim and bolstered sport bucket seats.

And One More Thing

With the purchase of the EV6, new owners will receive 1,000 kilowatt-hours of complimentary charging with Electrify America’s charging network. Kia says in just 18 minutes, your battery will go from 10% to 80% capacity at 350 kW.
